Parent & Student Information
Welcome!
Dear Parents,
Welcome to my blog. This is where you will find out what is going on in your child's math and science classroom. I will post objectives and homework each week as well as any important dates coming up. If there is any other information that you feel would help to make our year more successful, please feel free to suggest it. I'm looking forward to a fabulous year!

STAAR Objectives
The STAAR Test is heavily weighted on Objectives 1 & 3!!!!
Objective 1: The student will demonstrate an understanding of number concepts. Skills – place value through 999,999,999; equivalent fractions, fractions greater than one, compare and order fractions, relate fractions to decimals; addition & subtraction of whole numbers and decimals; basic multiplication & division facts, multiply up to 2-digits by 2-digits, long division – up to 3-digits by 1-digit; estimation using rounding and compatible numbers.
Objective 2: The student will demonstrate an understanding of mathematical relations, functions, and other algebraic concepts. Skills – use patterns to remember multiplication and division facts, multiply numbers by 10 and 100; ordered pairs in a table (find rule).
Objective 3: The student will demonstrate an understanding of geometric properties and relationships. Skills – types of angles, types of lines, attributes of 2- and 3-dimentional figures; translations, rotations, reflections, symmetry; number lines – whole numbers, fractions (halves & fourths), decimals (to tenths).
Objective 4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of measurement concepts using metric and customary units. Skills – estimate and find measurements using tools (customary and metric system): capacity, weight, mass, and length (find perimeter, area, and volume); conversions between units of customary length, capacity, and weight; explain difference between mass and weight; measure temperature and changes in temperature; use a clock to solve elapsed time problems.
Objective 5: The student will demonstrate an understanding of probability and statistics. Skills- combinations up to 3 different items; compare bar graphs & double bar graphs.
* Objective 6 (integrated throughout test): The student will demonstrate an understanding of the mathematical processes and tools used in problem solving. Skills – identify math in everyday situations, use a four step plan to solve problems (TIPS), relate informal language to math language and symbols; make generalizations from patterns or sets of examples and nonexamples.
This is an excellent site for practice that I am reposting from a couple of weeks ago :-)

Math Objectives Week of February 25th
This week students will continue their investigation of Measurement. Students will estimate and measure the standard and metric capacity of containers, the weight of objects, and the mass of objects. We will then begin converting units of measurement starting with Customary length.
Don’t forget that the Math STAAR Practice Test is on Tuesday. Please make sure that your child get’s a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast (Protein!) in the morning to feel preparedJ
Math Homework:
Monday: Pracitce Multiplicaton & Division Facts
Monday: Pracitce Multiplicaton & Division Facts
Tuesday: District Assessment Study Guide goes home - Due Monday 3/4
Wednesday: Pracitce Multiplicaton & Division Facts
Thursday: Motivation Math pg. 169-170 TIPS!
Thursday: Motivation Math pg. 169-170 TIPS!
Science Objectives Week of Februar 25th
This week students will continue learning about Forces and Motion. Students will investigate the effect of force on a simple machine such as a push or a pull, gravity, friction, or magnetism.
Monday: Study your science notes
Tuesday: Study your science notes.
Wednesday: Study your science notes.
Thursday: Study your science notes
*studying science notes for 10 minutes a day will help students to retain the information better than "cramming" for tests and assignments.
Measurement Notes
These are notes that students should have recorded in their Most Important Things About Measurement Booklets that we have been working on in class :-)
